U.S. ports have reported phishing and vessel impersonation emails to the MTS-ISAC. Vessel impersonation emails have attempted to impersonate a motor vessel or tanker by name, including those listed below, in the subject line of an email along with another
reference. While terms like “PDA Request”, “Port Inquiry/Enquiry”, “Quotation”, “PO”, and “Invoice” are frequently used with vessel names in email subject lines, the MTS-ISAC has also received email samples with current themes of “COVID-19” and “Medical Equipment”
during this reporting period.
