Tropical Storm GRACE Advisory
Marine Safety Office Houston-Galveston is notifying all facilities,
vessels, and port users that as of 1400 CDT this afternoon, Tropical
Storm Grace was located about 285 miles east southeast of Corpus Christi,
TX, tracking northwest at 12 mph with expected landfall tomorrow
afternoon near the Port O’Connor, TX area. Maximum sustained winds are
near 39 mph with higher gusts. It is expected to strengthen in
intensity, approaching tropical storm force winds by the time it reaches
landfall. The ports of Houston, Galveston, Texas City, and Freeport are
forecasted to experience winds up to 20 mph, tides 1 to 2 feet higher
than normal predictions, and 4 to 8 inches of rain from the storm.
Based on current forecast information, we do not expect to impose
operational restrictions or change the port condition. However, the port
community is advised to closely monitor the storm's progress and make
appropriate preparations in the event of severe weather. Should the
storm track change, additional guidance will be issued in the form of
Marine Safety Information Bulletins, Broadcast Notice to Mariners, or
other forms as necessary.
To ensure safety, all vessel owners, agents, and operators who may need
to seek an area of safe refuge are urged to make arrangements in advance
of the storm's arrival that comply with federal, state, local and private
waterway or mooring restrictions. Smaller commercial vessels not
restricted by draft, including fishing vessels, are asked to seek shelter
outside the deep draft shipping channel and turning areas.
