...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM
CDT THIS EVENING...
* EVENT...Hotter weather on tap for Thursday. Heat indices will
climb very quickly Thursday morning quickly surpassing 100 and
by the afternoon hours 106 to 111 degree heat index readings
will be common.
* TIMING...9 am near the coast quickly expanding inland and
lasting through 7 pm. Overnight temperatures will only fall
into the upper 70s to lower 80s both tonight and Thursday
night.
* IMPACT...Dangerous heat possible Thursday with little recovery
overnight. Avoid over exposure as this could lead to heat
exhaustion or even heat stroke.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work...the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency - call 911.
Each year...a number of fatalities occur nationwide due to
children accidentally being left in vehicles during the summer
months. In the past dozen years...500 children have died due to
hyperthermia after being left in or gaining access to cars. Never
leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle not even for a
minute. Remember...beat the heat...check the backseat.

Abnormally high heat continues today and a heat advisory is in
effect from 9 am through 7 pm. Be proactive in taking precautions
against the summer heat. It is especially important to ensure
parked cars are empty, as they can become lethally hot to people
and pets in a short amount of time.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday
High heat is expected to continue into the weekend, with
temperatures only cooling down slightly from Thursday`s peak.
Continue to take extra care in working against heat illness for
the next several days.
Rip current strength may become elevated once again for the
middle to end of the week. Even if the risk does not develop,
always swim near a lifeguard.
