Daily Port Update

Subject:Tropical Depression 8 // USCG COTP Set Port Condition - Whiskey
Date:Thursday, July 23, 2020
Priority:Normal
Notice:

To all concerned

Following minutes received from Mr. James Prazak // Chair of PCT Committee regarding Tropical Depression 8.

Here is the update from the PCT Call.

NWS:  370 miles SE of Galveston.  Sustained 30 mph, but expected to increase to 50 mph before going ashore at Matagorda Island.  Expected to go ashore on Saturday.  Most of the impacts will be south of the Houston Ship Channel area, but some tropical storm force winds may occur in our area.  Tides will be higher than normal due to the winds pushing water up along the coast.  Rainfall of 3 to 5” is possible.  USCG:  Heavy weather MSIB was sent out yesterday.  Port Condition Whiskey has just been set for the Sector Houston-Galveston and Freeport region.  VTS:  Operations normal for now, but everyone should be making any necessary preparations.  If we do see high water on the San Jac, VTS will expand to cover the River.  Houston Pilots:  Business as usual for now, unless seas get too rough as the storm gets closer.

Next call later today at 1600 to discuss the latest predictions on the storm.

Additionally, for those who were not aware, Steve Nerheim has been the Director of VTS for some time, but is retiring later this year.  Brian Smith, currently the Deputy at VTS, will become the Director upon Steve’s retirement.

Thanks,

JAMES PRAZAK

Sincerely,

Bob Lain
